What to Expect
Your child’s first visit to Our Practice is a very big event! During this appointment, we will perform a dental cleaning and take digital xrays to look for cavities and monitor tooth development.

A positive first dental experience is a MUST in our office - If your child has never been to the dentist before or just needs to start with a short “Happy” visit, we might begin with a ride in the dental chair and a prize!

You are a part of the Team! In our office, Parents are invited to sit alongside their children during their care. This is a great way for parents to learn more about effective tooth brushing and flossing so they can offer positive reinforcement and coaching at home. Overcoming fear in a kind, caring way and teaching your child good oral care habits now can prevent decay and gum disease as they grow up. We will take as much time as we need to make sure you and your child understand how to properly care for that precious smile.

Our Approach to your Child’s Dental Care is based on the four principles of pediatric dentistry:
    1) Prevention and Education
    2) Monitoring Development
    3) Restoration and Preservation
    4) Emotional level of comfort

Prevention and Education: Following a complete dental examination with xrays, we will clean your child’s teeth to remove stain and dental plaque deposits. After the teeth are thoroughly cleaned, we will instruct you and your child in basic nutrition and daily home care to effectively reduce the levels of decay-causing bacteria and help prevent cavities. We will review your family medical and dental history to assess your child’s risk of dental decay, and may recommend plastic coatings, or “Sealants” to cover deep grooves in your child’s teeth and prevent bacteria from penetrating the tooth surface.

Monitoring Development: At periodic intervals during your child’s growth we will take a “panoramic” xray which gives us a digital image of the teeth and jaw bone structures. This xray, combined with an oral examination, helps us monitor development of permanent teeth and look for orthodontic conditions which may require correction.

Restoration and Preservation: When teeth become damaged due to trauma or decay, it becomes necessary to restore the tooth with a filling or crown to preserve the bite and prevent further damage.

Early loss of baby teeth can often contribute to problems with development and alignment of permanent teeth; we may place a restoration and treat the nerve of a baby tooth to retain the tooth in its vital position until the permanent tooth can erupt.

Emotional level of comfort: If a child is apprehensive or has extensive work that is needed, we may recommend in-office sedation using nitrous oxide, or hospital care under general anesthetic. Once the more difficult treatment is completed, we can begin creating happy dental memories associated with routine dental visits.

Our office features Digital Dental Xray Technology, which requires less radiation than traditional film.
